amour de cuisine

herbs, canon digital rebel xt

I never had a partner that I cooked with until I met my husband. He was the one to enjoy creating in the kitchen and at first, I let him and didn't really join in. He would tell me that cooking is art. That being in tune to the spices, the textures, the scents, the tastes, had a sensuality to it. And it does. Now that I have been spending more time in the kitchen, I feel it. When I have that awareness, my senses are being teased and tantalized. When the mood is set; music, candles and my husband by my side, it feels romantic, sexy...a different form of making love and nourishing our bodies.

Tell me your thoughts on this...or share with me your own stories.

Oh goodness, I have yet to have a love affair with cooking. I make a great pot of coffee and a mean up of tea; does that count? I have red accents all over my kitched...red, the color of passion; does that count?

oooh! this post makes me want to run down to my kitchen and start cooking something. maybe pumpkin bread? i like to take it out of the over early so the middle is still a little undone, and then cut myself a big middle slice, sprinkle some sugar on it, and big in.

thanks for this culinary post! xo

i looooove cooking. my mama never let me cook with her because i was too messy; she always asked me to leave once i spilled too much flour on the floor. so i taught myself through volunteering with a vegan food collective - which meant, that up until i met my partner, i hadn't really cooked meat before.
my partner's caribbean, and he's been teaching me things about seasoning, how to roast...it really is such a bonding experience, knowing that what we're creating is going to nourish the other, and he looks damned cute with a whisk in his hand, too.

Well, I have a love affair with my husband's cooking!
I don't have the patience; but when I want to do something nice for him I plan out a meal and make it (a big event!). He cooks every day for us; and I'm equally appreciative every single day for this gift.

Cooking is the ultimate practice in Zen and mindfulness. I am still working on it. I am still a bit too "fast moving " to slow down enough to cook a decent meal. I do love it when I have the time...

Have you read The Mistress of Spices? For whatever reason, it's the first thing that popped into my head when I read your post. If you haven't read it, it's a wonderful read.

cooking is certainly sensual, sexual sometimes, and nurturing. i LOVE cooking, and especially with or for the man i love. it's my most expressive me.
