My Favorite Coat

my favorite vintage coat, kodak ls753

My favorite coat
Hangs in the hallway
Waiting like a good friend
To keep me warm.

I love my coat
Sturdy and versatile
Solving all my problems
Nirvana in the rain.

And it's raining, and raining,
Been raining for weeks now, crying a torrent
And the rain is washing us clean.

In my coat I am a superhero
Traveling through space and time
Impervious to pain.

Me and my coat
We are a symphony
Blanketing the world outside
An oasis in the storm.

~ Deb Talan, Something Burning

I couldn't have said it any better. I found this coat at a vintage shop long ago and I thought my relationship with it odd until I came upon this song.

Do you have an article of clothing or jewelry where with it, you feel like a symphony, a superhero?

I have a linen summer baby doll dress that I got on clearance at the gap about 10 years ago. I love this dress, it makes me feel light, airy an free.

Great jacket love!

Ooh - love it! My grandmother was a seamstress and I have two of her old coats from the 40s. One is emerald green velvet with giant velvet-covered buttons; the other is black and thick and lined and has a detachable fur color. Both have 3/4-length sleeves, and I adore them. Jim has a trenchcoat of his grandfather's too, and we like to wear them together.

I have black vinyl knee-hi boots that lace up the front.

when I wear them, i feel like such an ass-kicking hottie (Like "La Femme Nikita"). They empower me and make me feel sexy.

and your coat looks very cuddly!

I love that coat, the green is such a gorgeous, springy color. I have a pair of shoes that were an amazing score at a sale that make me feel sexy and stylish. Unfortunately there is only a limited amount of time I can wear them each year, they are too open for the snow.

I remember the day you bought that coat. It reminds me of Memer`e, without the smell;-)
I'm all about the shoes. Unfortunatly, I form very strong attachments to them. Each pair makes me feel a different way. My husband is so completely confused with this as he is content to have only 4 pairs...black, brown, tennies and his berks. I have actually had to dust off some of my shoes before putting them on. They are so happy when I do this. (don't worry Ms. Pink shoe...you are not forgotten:-)

My hubby bought me a gorgeous soft pinky-lilac mohair throw. It's for those nights when I'm a bit sad and can't sleep but don't want to wake him from blissful sleep just to inform him that I'm feeling blah. He blessed it by asking it to take precious care of me when he is not available to. (He did this after a slight prompt from me though :-))

Your coat is beautiful.

I love this poem! This is a breakthrough for me, because normally I don't get poems. I'm trying really hard, but this one- ah finally- this one just speaks directly to me. YES I do have a few articles of clothing where I feel like a symphony and or superhero.

A symphony.

Nice.

You won't believe it but I have a coat just like that too! + a red one and a little grey number, they just hang downstairs! waiting for me to lose weight just like my longish skirts are waiting for me! I've always loved wearing longish skirts and a simple blouse or top, or tee around the house! I was getting into the zone to lose weight but with my dad becoming sick, I have gained some weight, a nice soft warm pretzel or ice cream sandwich, or M&M chocolate covered peanuts comforted me every night! LOL My husband has been on midnights which he isn't fond of too! Ug! soooo HOPEFULLY I will get back into the losing weight ZONE Monday!!!and I will slink back into my sweet longish skirts!! I love them to dance around in my kitchen and swish the hems around to the beat of Santana, Shakira, Selena(Dreaming of You) or any great beat!

Great poem and beautiful coat! I have 2 coats I have carried around from place to place - one of my mother's when she was young, a dashing red one which has fabulous texture and big cuffs. The other is one of my own when I was young -a full length dress coat which doesn't fit any longer! The 2 things which make me feel like a symphony are both rings, however - one of my great-grandmother's, and the other is my wedding ring. One gives me a place in history, the other a home in love.

I have the same love for my coat...find it on a rack begging to be taken home. It looked like it was made from some couch material, has faux fur around the collar and I am so ultra chic in this old piece of someones furniture that I can actually...well I can't do anything super hero style...maybe just feel zippity do dah!
