fall cleaning

imported bowls, canon digital rebel xt

Today I felt a strong urge to clean. Not just wipe the surface of countertops and put things away but something deeper. I feel like sorting thru my clothes, books, drawers, art supplies and toiletries to weed out what I haven't used in a while and savor the ones I do.

I've spent a lot of time in quiet this past week and I've realized I am feeling a bit closed in by clutter. Not only surrounding me in my home but also within my mind, on my website, in my studio etc. I am craving simplicity and Zen (hence the new look to my blog).

My husband and I are also working on a new and refreshing look to my website. You will see it when my store opens in November.

I know most people experience these type of decluttering urges when Spring approaches. We call it "Spring cleaning". But for me, it usually comes in Fall. When the air smells of the promise of rain I feel an essence of peace and crave a simpler life.

So I call it "Fall cleaning".

I agree...Spring makes me want to go outside and play, Fall draws out the cleaning bug in me, that wants to wipe away all the dust that has collected from months of open windows & around here...nut harvest time.

I love this photo Den...another one for the boutique.

so much love for you :)

I must be a "fall cleaner" too... In the spring it is already too hot here to want to do much really, but about October it starts to cool a bit and I feel like digging into all my stuff and minimising everything.

I can't wait till your shop opens, I want to see all that you have created!!! The hubby and I were talking last night about how much fun I would have "some day" when I can do that. 3 more years and the kids are all in school... then I might have enough free time to get something done!!! I am really really wanting to do lampwork... I become completely obsessed with it a few years ago, but I just do not have a space for it yet, and outside is so bloody hot here... The next house will have that space for me though :)

Love this photo.

I seem to weed out extra stuff at the beginning of fall, too. In Illinois, the windows are sealed shut as we await the arrival of winter, so it's best to make your home as un-cluttered as possible. You'll find just snuggly blankets and pillows EVERYWHERE.

Come snuggle, lovely, I miss you...
Beautiful banner, too...

Fall is the perfect time to clean. Summer is a time when things get a little messy from running all around and tracking in little bits from outside activities. Fall is the chance to get everything fresh and ready for the winter hibernation.

I love to clean out my closets and sort thru my things in early fall. It's especially nice on the east coast because of the change of seasons; you get to fall in love with your things anew each time.
Your new banner is nice and very inviting.

Oh, I love everything about a good cleaning. Not the scrubbing bit, but the tossing things out and simplifying kind of cleaning. I've often thought I could hire myself out to sort through peoples stuff. Fall is a good time to dig into that process. It's nesting and preparing to go deep into the dark of winter. In the best way.

I know you're gonna think I'm like crazily stalking or shadowing you because I keep saying, "Me too! Exactly!" to all of your posts. But really... right now my house is the most pared down that it's been... ever! Each week I take about 5 bags to the Goodwill drop-off place and it just feels so good to get rid of the crap in my life and in my house!

Someone once told me that in feng shui, they recommend that you particularly clean out the west side of your house if you want a baby. Interesting, huh?

It hits me in fall as well. I think it has something to do with that whole back to school feeling. I miss going school supply shopping. Starting over with new pencils and new notebooks and a new backpack made it feel like the prior year was over and done and things were moving on. So the weather change prompts me to want to start over.

Take Care All.

There is definitely something about the Fall that makes me want to clear some space to allow something new to be born.

Hope all is going well, and you can revel in your new space. :)

Simplifying is so good for the soul. And I really get the urge in fall. I have been moving around furniture around in my house this week and in major purge mode. I feel much more free without the excess clutter.
