self portrait challenge ~ black & white

boho in the kitchen, canon digital rebel xt (click for larger view)

Okay, so this is the first installment of this month's self portrait challenge prompt for "black & white" portraits.

I'm going to have a blast with this one because I am so passionate about black & white's. But this particular picture has me laughing out loud. I think it is so fricken funny that my kitty Amber decided she needed to be front and center of attention here.

So, here is me, in my kitchen, snacking on some grapes. Little does my husband know that when he is at work and I am at home taking a break from my work, that I often sit up on our kitchen counter, snack and ponder what to do next for my day. Yep...good times in 'da kitchen.

I know what my sisters are thinking. They cannot believe I allow my cats up on my counter...but I DO constantly wipe them with yummy spray cleaners. I promise. I just can't say no to my kitties.

And yes folks...that is indeed an old door hanging from the ceiling. ; )

How yummy is this?!

I can't even express how much I love this photo. SUCH a great story here. That kitty face! It's playful and breaks the rules of most kitchens -- everyone sitting on the counter, kitties included --which I love. It's also very much how my kitchen operates.

Black and white just captures the moment perfectly -- they are so much fun indeed.

I don't know if I should admit this but I am kind of voyeuristic when it comes to people and their kitchens; I love to peek inside the space where people cook and see the environments they create for themselves.

Your kitchen seems like such a warm and inviting place to be. I wish I were there eating grapes on the counter with you and Amber.

This is such a fun look into your day. I can totally imagine you snacking on grapes and planning what's next.

Loving you, loving Amber, loving the old door, loving the vibe of your space and loving this photo!

GOL.

Oh darling I can say my kitties like to sit on our counter right below where the catnip rests in the cupboard. Makes me giggle.

And I love sitting on the counters when Terry and I are having serious conversations-good or bad. I never really thought about that before.

But I love the image of you snacking and pondering what to do next with your day.

Love it.

Love you.
and Love the new banner!

i love your kitchen! we're redoing ours and it's shaped much like yours, and i'm excited to see that there's a lot that's rockstar about a smaller kitchen. i might steal some inspiration from yours when it comes time to decorate!

and i let my kitties on the counter, too. i think they go up there even when we try not to let them, so i just gave in and spray them down often-er (i made it up) than most.

This picture encompasses so many things honey. It's timeless. It has a beautiful quality of representing everyday life, yet it is special in the fact that it speaks to one moment in time. And what were you thinking in that one moment? What were you planning? What was manifesting in that beautiful head of yours? That's how this picture speaks to me. I adore it.....and you.

Love you

Oh good grief - is there anyone who can keep their cats off of their counters? I have yet to know anyone who does that successfully. (I'm sure plenty will pounce on this, I'll just say not in my friends and family - we end up with bite marks in the buttah).

I heart how she's the one staring dead into the camera. Perfect. Er, uh.. purrfect.

(and no judgment for me about kitty on the counter...I used to hate that but then I got my little Jimi cat and he, errmmm, doesn't take no for an answer! So I figure no harm done if the counters get wiped down with eco friendly sprays LOTS and LOTS :-))
