to pamper or not to pamper...

The pedicure above is called the "Island". Can you just imagine the tropical scents coming from this delicious bowl of silky blue water?
While my friend and I were sitting side by side this past weekend as our feet were being loved on with sugar scrubs and adorned with sparkly lotions, I thought about the concept of pampering oneself.
So many of us deal with a lot of guilt when it comes to pampering ourselves. Me included...but I am learning that it is all part of loving myself so that I can be fully present for the other loved ones in my life.
Whenever I leave an acupuncture session, I feel more patient, more calm, more emotionally available to others. When I walked out of this amazing Zen spa with painted toes and soft coconut scented legs, I had an extra skip in my step. I drove away with music blasting, me singing and looking forward to loving on my husband as soon as I arrived home.
So perhaps those of us that do indeed suffer from thoughts that pampering oneself is selfish or unnecessary, I would ask to look deeper and realize that loving and replenishing yourself isn't just about yourself. It is healthy, wise and puts you in a better frame of mind to give of yourself the way you want to.
So, just like you budget for food, gas, doctors appointments and bills...put a little bit of money away each month for a massage, pedicure or whatever it is your body is craving. Or have your girl/boyfriends over to do your own spa treatments. The more I do this, the more I realize that taking care of my mind, body and soul is not just about taking care of me. It is also about taking care of those that have to live with me.
So... to pamper or not to pamper. That is the question!

I absolutely LOVE being pampered! I even try to do it atleast 1 time every 3-4 weeks. I feel renewed, rejuvenated, and revived everytime! It also gives me a great sense of self worth..."yes, kristin, you ARE important enough to take time out for yourself in your busy crazy life!.." I have even started pampering my pooch! Usually every 3rd Friday of the month (second pay day) Chloe and I go out for our pampered day...she gets dropped off at the Petsmart grooming salon where they bathe, brush her, and put on her fabulously yummy puppy perfume on. They even offer to paint their nails! (with pet friendly polish, of course) As long as your pet is patient enough..Chloe however is not.
She totally comes out like a new Woman and I swear she has an extra spring in her step! Plus I love love love her pup perfume it makes her smell wonderful for weeks at a time! (I am not big on "Dog" smells so this is where my hubby and I compromise to owning a dog)
It usually take 3-4 hours so I go and get a manicure/pedicure, or get my hair done, massage, facial, or shopping therapy! Like you said, whatever your body is asking for...
I am so glad you took some time out this weekend to indulge in the awesomness that goes along with a good primp and pampering! Having great friends around and making a date of it is totally the icing on the cake!

I am such a believer in the art of pampering. A massage and a mani-pedi can just change your outlook on life and make you feel a bit more calm and put together. Everyone needs to take time out for themselves to say thanks to our bodies for all the hard work they do. Hands, feet, and a strong backbone- where would you be without yours? I say, pamper.
Glad things are going so well for you, you seem happy!
In two weeks I'll be enjoying a weekend at a Spa. The Spa is located at the sea, so I can't wait to get pampered and take long mind cleansing walks on the beach.
While reading your post I did however realize that it has been to long since I last took care of my body like this. So I'm going to try and pamper myself even more after the Spa weekend :)

"It's also about taking care of those that have to live with me" this sentence is so true and should be my mantra! Because when I'm taking care of myself (pampering included)I'm a better, patient mama and wife. Sometimes the day-to-day of my life can be tedious and I stop being appreciative and then I need to stop and do a re-start button.....massage, a pedicure, an artist date....something that's ONLY for me and it makes all the difference.
I'm blessed to have a massage therapist that likes to barter ~ I give him the needles and he gives me a deep tissue massage. We've been trading once a month and it makes such a difference in my life......truly a moment to stop and smell the roses.
So true baby.
It has been way too long since I got a pedicure or went to a spa, but the past few days I have pampered myslef by taking a nap every day. It really has done wonders.
Your trip to the spa sounds heavenly.
Hope we can do a spa weekend sometime soon.
Love you

coconut-scented legs? YUM! a few days ago someone left me a comment suggesting i get a massage... and now you write this... i think the angels are telling me something ;-) xo
Well, as a massage therapist, I couldn't agree more! Everyone should take some time for themselves at least once a month- and more if possible! It doesn't have to be anything extravagant, just a little indulgence can go a long way!
To pamper, always! For all the reasons you mention.
I adore being pampered -
or simply pampering myself -
pedicures are lovely -
i rarely wear make-up but i
love to have polish on my toes and
little toe rings -
your photo of the pretty water and
soak is terrific!
It's been so long since I treated myself to a pedicure. It's been sounding good since the weather here got nice enough to sneak into a pair of sandals. But the rain is coming again, and I may put off that little bit of pampering for a few more weeks. There's something really wonderful about pretty feet.
Mmmmm...Pass me some of dat mermaid water.....lol
Very unique idea!

yes! my job is to pamper peeps...and i always try to approach each massage client with this in mind- it's hard for some of us to pamper ourselves, due to guilt or financial restrictions, etc. so i try to give each person the best massage i can give, trying to be sensitive to the fact that it is a TREAT!
thanks for this little pampering encouragement!
ooooo, I want to go to that spa and get that treatment.
You should send them that picture, because it's so beautiful.

*sigh* You have I have talked about this so many times, and I could not agree with you more. I am so glad that you took the time to do this, and that you were able to spend time w/your friend.
There is nothing like a good pedi to make a girl feel all brand new!!!!!!
love you,
J

pamper!
bring on the nail polish, cotton balls and even some fine tooth picks...okay, maybe some remover too...
I'll gladly choose to pamper my sore feet!
sending love and a hug, always!
ps. thanks for ALL the wonderful help with the beautiful creation of my banner. I simply put, LOVE it!!
OOOOooo to so "pamper". I am a creature of pampering, if only it is a soak in the bath, the mini-facial on the weekend, the every 3/4 month massages, the rare occasion of a manicure.
Seeing that Spunk Guy bought "me*" a massage table for Christmas (I am going to be doing Shatishu massage later this year) We have been indulging a "pampering" at least three times a month. And what a god send. YUMMO!
Big Hugs,
Love Toni
*me in being the two of us* :o)
** I'll be e-mailing you in the next few days :) :) :)
Amen! And I say Pamper, too, although I am one those who tends to put it off for one reason or another. My sister opened my eyes to the idea that we deserve to pamper ourselves. She doesn't think twice about going for a massage or a facial. It's been a real lesson for me.
I couldn't agree more. We each need to replenish ourselves; that way there's more of us to go around for others in our lives. This morning I made time to do pilates, something I viewed as pampering since I had a very busy work day schedule. However, it paid off and I felt good about it all day, which made me feel less stressed and hopefully made me able to be more giving and focused throughout the day. Great post!
