self portrait challenge :: what i wear

me & a few of my clients after a photo session, taken by susannah

Even though I am breaking the rules a bit by using a photo that wasn't taken by me...it's still a portrait of self, right? Right.

I make sure to remain true to who I am when on a photo shoot. Part of this is wearing whatever expresses my mood that particular day and asking my clients to wear whatever makes them feel beautiful. Not only does it put me at ease but my clients as well. As you can see, at the end of our photo shoot, shirts came untucked and some goofing around was had. Very telling that all went well in Boho Photo land.

I've been really into dresses over jeans lately. I can't get enough. Another thing I've been wearing a lot lately is tinted lip gloss. Does anyone know of some cool neutral colored ones? I am new to this lip gloss thang.

I know this is far from a deep post. Sometimes girls just wanna have fun.

Speaking of fun. I've been making a point to put on a song that gets my groove going and dancing in my studio every day. Got this tip from the crazy sexy book. I love it when I get into the zone and close my eyes and let go. I notice I move so much more freely that way. Boho dancing has helped to bring back my sexy. Something I've been tapping into a lot more lately.

I am loving the song "Let it Out" by Starrfadu. The lyrics, the beat...yes.

I'd love for you to list some songs to groove with as well. Okay, so that's tinted lip gloss and booty music. Go...

see other self portraits here.

"Do Like You", by the great Stevie Wonder. It's on the "Hotter than July" record. Do you know that one? Like your blog.

Hi Denise!
I've been reading your blog quite a bit lately, and I'm so happy to hear you're feeling so fine!

Okay....lipgloss...I love Burt's Bees Lipshimmers. Lots of soft colours...Rhubarb is my favorite.

Groovin'....we love 'Jungle Boogie'...and 'What A Feeling'(wearing legwarmers, of course!)

grr wrote a whole big post and it disappeared!

Ok.. so repeating.. I'm a big fan of the skirts and dresses over jeans - and in Sydney there is a huge trend at the moment for dresses over leggings.. so flattering for all body types, hoorah!

lip gloss - I'm a huge fan of KIT cosmetics, an Aussie company but you can purchase on line. And PawPaw ointment is a godsend..

I really love all the plumping lipglosses by Clinique. They have a hint of color and are perfect for day or night.

I like this look on you - It's a fun look!
Ecco Bella is an all natural cosmetics line normally found in health food stores. They have a couple of cute lip gloss colors.
Personally, I like Chanel.. Colors like Twinkle that give off a hint of color and a hint of sparkle.

burt's bees is good, and i also like bath and body works lip glosses. they make them in a ton of colors, and they have a minty flavor (which supposedly helps keep your breath fresh)!

lipgloss? Well, Aveda has a liptint in "spice". It's in a chapstick like tube, but it's glossy. Ummm..NuSkin (private distributors, but you can find them online) has a tub-gloss, and I love all the colors.
Personally, when I'm feeling really glossy, i put on a light shade of stick, then coat with good ole bonnie bell!

Music? Love grooving to anything Ben Harper or Bruce Hornsby.

You look beautiful btw...

Ooohh, lip gloss.
My very favorite is dr hauschka lip care stick. it has no color though but it feels delicious on the lips...like i am nourishing them!

I also have a little tube in my bag from my neice, that i would not typically buy -- but everytime i put it on..yum....juicy tubes pop in toffee pop by lancome. probably filled with toxic ingredients but something about it - kind of pleasingly sticky!

Another new sassy indulgence --- I was nail polish free for years for (once more..toxins...) but recently picked up a some No Miss Nail Polish in black at Whole Foods! I highly recommend it.

I will second the Burt's Bees Lipshimmers suggestion, those are my absolute favorite!

Also the C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Shines are lovely AND they freshen your breath too. BONUS!!

And as far as dance tunes go... it's an oldie but goodie. Nothing gets me dancing like "Dizzy" by Green Apple Quickstep. Except maybe, ironically, "I Don't Feel Like Dancing" by the Scissor Sisters.

the lip balms are called wine country naturals! you'll LOVE them!

'look up' by zero 7 ~ a live version i have
'devil with the green eyes' by matthew sweet
'manana' by aterciopelados (the song is in spanish but is about doing things tomorrow so you can dance today.

I am shamlessly addicted to Maybelline's shiny*licious chocolate cherry (85).

If you want some fun booty shaking inspiration check out www.siamusic.net. She is such a hoot. You'll need Adobe Flash to view. She is all about shaking...well everything and she has the most soul FULL voice. She reminded me to be playful.

I have a hard time walking past lip gloss and not buying it. I have about a million in as many shades. My advice would be to start a collection so you can keep one in your make up bag, several in your purse, one in the pocket of each jacket, one in your car....They all look great, in every color tint i've tried!

Some songs that make me start to wiggle and sing out loud:

-Soul Meets Body by Deathcab for Cutie
-Starlight by Muse
-Sleeps with Butterflies by Tori Amos
-The Story by Brandi Carlile
-Moment of Forgiveness by the Indigo Girls

I could go on and on...

I will tell you that I have found great music from reading your blog. Thank you!!

loves,
B

my favorite gloss is definately neutrogena's line...it's a splash of color, not too thick and goopy, a hint of tingly minty-ness on the lips, and a zing of flavor that is nott too candy-babyish but just enough girlyish-fun. try it. my fav (and i am very choosey :)

Go ahead, break the rules! :)
The dress over the denims works for you and you look darling.
Dancing and letting yourself go is so freeing and therapeutic. I'm a big fan of dancing, jivin', groovin, twirlin' and even playing air guitar. Whatever feels good!
Oh so many songs get me pumped.

A few I like: (ok more than a few)
Not up to you - Stereophonics
Fast Car - Tracy Chapman
Starry Eyed Surprise - Paul Oakenfold
My Friend - Groove Armada
Take My Hand - Dido
The Light - David Gray (The EP's 92-94)

Ok I obviously got really carried away there. Sheesh! I had fun digging through the music though. Thanks for that.
